The mountaintop is the top part of a mountain, the highest bit. People also use it as a describing word: a mountaintop village, a mountaintop view. It is ordinary English, a little more picture-like than just “the top of the mountain.” Though actually, often prefer summit for the very highest point they are aiming for; mountaintop is the everyday picture. Write it as one word.
