Motorcycling is the activity of riding a motorcycle — either as a sport, or as a hobby you do on weekends, or simply as the general subject of riding bikes. It is the -ing word for the whole activity, the way 'swimming' or 'fishing' names the thing you do rather than one time you did it. So you meet it in phrases like 'motorcycling is dangerous in the rain', 'a motorcycling magazine', 'he gave up motorcycling after the accident', or 'the motorcycling world'. It feels a little formal and a little British — the word you would see in a magazine title, a club name, or a safety report. Between friends, most people just say 'riding' or 'riding my bike': 'I went riding on Sunday' is far more natural than 'I went motorcycling on Sunday'. And here is something students should hold on to: in English a motorcycle means a big road bike, the kind with a large engine you ride sitting up. Your 125cc scooter that you park outside the MRT station is a scooter, not really a motorcycle, and going to work on it is not motorcycling — it is just going to work. Motorcycling suggests choosing to ride, for the pleasure of it.
組成motorcycle + -ing, the ending that turns an action into the name of the activity, like swim → swimming. And motorcycle itself is motor (engine) + cycle (a two-wheeled machine, from Greek kuklos, a circle or wheel).
