    The motherboard is the big main board inside a computer. Almost everything important sits on it or plugs into it: the chip that thinks, the memory, the sockets for the screen, the keyboard, the storage. Smaller boards can plug into it; those are sometimes called daughterboards. “Mother” here does not mean a person. It means the main board the others belong to — the one that holds the machine together. The compound has been used since about 1965. It is ordinary tech talk, not slang.
