    Moss is a tiny green plant that grows in a soft, thick layer, like a little fur, on wet soil, tree bark, or rocks. It has no flowers, and it has no real roots like a tree. It likes shade and water. In Britain you see it on old stone walls and in woods; after rain in Taiwan you see the same kind of green fuzz on damp walls and temple stones. People also use moss in a loose way for any green covering on a wet surface, even when a scientist might give that covering a more careful name. There is an old saying, “A rolling stone gathers no moss”: if you keep moving, extra things do not stick to you — though actually people still argue about whether that is a good life or a lonely one.
