Morn means morning, but it is not the everyday word. You meet it in poems, songs, and older writing: the morn, from morn till night. It sounds soft and a little old. Though actually, in some Scottish speech the morn can mean tomorrow, not this morning — so the tidy dictionary line “morning” is true in books, and not always true in the street. In class and in ordinary talk, just say morning.
組成From Old English morgen, the same old “morning” word. Scholars trace it to a root about light shimmering at dawn. It is a doublet of morrow: two later shapes of one older word.
