A moppet is a small child, said with warmth, the way you might say little one when you are fond of them. It is old-fashioned and rather British; a is more likely to use it than a teenager. It often suggests a small girl, though it can be any little child. It is not an insult and not a word for a form — you would not write it on a school paper. You might meet it in an older story: the little moppet ran in from the garden. Though actually, used a lot it can sound a bit too cute, so today people more often say kid, toddler, or little one.
