Plural of 'moor,' wide, open, wild land, usually on hills, with rough grass and low bushes but few trees, often wet and covered in fog. Moors are common in the UK, especially in Scotland and northern England, and they show up a lot in old British novels as lonely, moody places. Note: 'Moors' with a capital M can also refer to Muslim people of Arab and Berber background who ruled parts of Spain long ago — a completely different word, so check which one a text means.
