A moonscape is a stretch of land that looks like the surface of the Moon: bare rock or dust, almost no plants, empty and grey. People say it about real places on Earth after a fire, a mine, lava, or a bomb, when the ground is ruined and strange. It is a picture-word, a little dramatic — you are saying this could be the Moon. It is not a photograph of the moon, and it is not moon rock. People also use it, more loosely, for the look of the Moon's own surface. You meet it in news, travel writing, and film more than in everyday chat.
