A monotheist is a person who believes there is only one God. The belief itself is ; the person is the monotheist — keep those two apart, even when a short gloss mixes them. In the textbook sense, a Jewish, Christian, or Muslim believer is a monotheist. People also use it more loosely for anyone who says there is one God, not only those three faiths. It is a formal word, for class, books, and careful talk, not for chatting with friends.
