    To behave in a silly, playful way instead of doing what you should — what a teacher says to noisy kids: 'Stop monkeying around!' With a thing, add 'with', and it means touching or playing with something you should leave alone: don't monkey around with my phone. Informal; 'mess around' and 'fool around' are close cousins.
