To mollycoddle someone is to treat them too kindly and to protect them too much from anything unpleasant. The extra care is the point, and it is not praise: people say it when they think the kindness will leave someone weak, or unable to face hard things. Parents get accused of mollycoddling a child; a coach may refuse to mollycoddle a player. You can also call a person a mollycoddle if they are wrapped in too much comfort, though that noun use is less common now. The word is a bit old-fashioned and a bit ; younger speakers still understand it, but they may say spoil or wrap in cotton wool instead. It is molly plus coddle, to treat very gently, as you might cook an egg slowly. Though actually, mollycoddle is stronger than kind — it means kind past the point of good sense.
