A mogul is a person with huge money and power in one line of work — films, newspapers, oil, tech. A media mogul owns TV stations; a Hollywood mogul runs a studio. Newspapers love the word; you would not use it of a small shop owner. The picture behind it is the Mughal emperors of India (older English wrote Moghul). They were so rich — the Taj Mahal comes from that world — that English borrowed their name for any hugely rich and powerful person. Further back, Mughal is Persian or Arabic for “”; the early emperors claimed a line to Genghis Khan. In older books Mogul can also mean the emperor himself. Though actually there is another mogul that looks the same: a hard bump of snow on a ski slope. bounce over a field of moguls. That word comes from dialect German Mugel or dialect Norwegian mugje, a heap or mound. It has nothing to do with emperors.
組成Two different words. This “rich person” word is a picture-use of Moghul, originally “Mongol”, via the Mughal Empire in India (1526–1857): Mughal is Persian or Arabic for “Mongol”, and the early emperors claimed a heritage back to Genghis Khan; the modern sense is supposedly from their storied riches. The “snow bump” word is from dialectal German Mugel or dialectal Norwegian mugje (“heap, mound”).
