If ideas, clothes, or designs are modish, they are modern and in fashion right now. It is rather a or newspaper word. Younger speakers more often say trendy, stylish, or fashionable. Though actually, modish can quietly hint that something is this season’s look, not a lasting one — but it is not always . It comes from mode in the old sense of fashion, not from modern, even though the two look like cousins. You will meet it more in writing about clothes, rooms, and ideas than in the school corridor.
