    A mock-up is a full-size model of something, built before the real thing exists — or built for a film or a show, so it looks real on camera. Designers mock up a car interior, a plane cabin, or a shop so people can sit in it and see if the idea works. It does not have to run like the finished machine; it has to look and feel like it. The verb is two words: mock up. The noun is often mock-up with a , sometimes mockup as one word. It is an ordinary word in design, engineering, and film; a little technical, not slang.
