    Mobil was the name of a big international oil company. For a long time you could fill the car at Mobil stations in many countries — the red sign with the flying horse. In 1999 Mobil joined with another oil company, Exxon, and the new company is called ExxonMobil. The old name did not die: Mobil is still a brand on some stations and on engine oil. Write it with a capital M; it is a company name, not the adjective mobile (“able to move”), even though the two look almost the same. People say it in ordinary talk about petrol (gas) and cars, not as a technical word.
