A mixologist is someone who makes cocktails in a bar — drinks built from spirits, juice, ice, bitters, and so on. The word is meant to sound more expert than bartender, as if mixing drinks were a kind of science. A bartender may pour beer, take orders, and chat; a mixologist is the one you picture inventing a new drink and talking about taste. Though actually, many bar workers find the word a bit , and ordinary English still says bartender. You will see mixologist on fancy menus and in job ads that want to sound modern. It is only for cocktail-making, not for mixing music or paint.
