A missal is the book a Catholic priest uses at Mass — it holds the prayers said at Mass through the whole year. In the Roman Catholic Church this is the Roman Missal. It is not the Bible, though bits of the Bible are inside it, and it is not a hymn book. Different days have different prayers; the missal lays them out so the service can follow the church year. Ordinary English speakers who are not Catholic may not know the word; Catholics will know the object even if they know the Chinese name first. You will also meet it in history, and when people talk about old, beautiful church books.
