Minuscule means extremely small — so small you might barely notice it. A minuscule insect on the page; a minuscule amount of sugar in the tea. People also stretch it: a minuscule chance, a minuscule difference, meaning tiny and not very important. It sounds a little more formal than tiny, which is the word most people reach for in easy talk. Though actually there is another, older use you may meet in books about writing: minuscule letters are the small form of letters (what we now call lowercase), set against majuscule, the big capital form. In ordinary English the tiny meaning is the one that matters. Many people spell it miniscule, with an i; you will see that everywhere, but the careful spelling is minuscule, with a u, because it comes from Latin minus, less.
