Minoan describes the language, religion, art, and way of life of , a Greek island, from about 3000 to 1100 BC. You can also call a person from that culture a Minoan. Their most important city was Knossos, where people who dig up old cities found a great palace and other buildings. This was one of the earliest rich civilisations in Europe, known for bright wall paintings, fine pots, and a life tied to the sea. Though actually, Minoan is not what those people called themselves. The British Sir Arthur Evans made up the name in the early 20th century, from Minos, the king of in Greek myth, because he did not know their own word. Their real name is lost. Scholars think it may live on in an Egyptian word kftjw (perhaps *Káftayu) and in the Biblical Hebrew place-name Kaftor (Caphthor).
組成Coined by Sir Arthur Evans from Ancient Greek Μίνως (Mínōs), the mythical king of Crete. The people's own name is unknown.
