1. 1

In British music teaching, a minim is a note that lasts as long as two . If a is one beat in a lot of simple music, a minim is two beats. On the page it looks like a white, open note-head with a stem, and no extra tail hanging off the stem. American English calls the same note a half note. Taiwan music class already has a clear name for this: 二分音符, which matches the “half” idea. You will hear minim in UK exam books and from teachers trained in that system. It is a technical classroom word, not a chatting word. Though actually, English has used minim in other small corners too — an old, very small drop of liquid, and Minim as the name of a Catholic religious order — but the meaning you need in school English is the note. Do not mix it up with minimum. They sit near each other and share an old “smallest” story, but one is a note value and one is “the least amount”.

組成Borrowed from French minime, a word for something very small. In music it named this shorter note. (A different Minim, the religious order, was named to sit even below the “lesser” friars; that is not the music sense.)
