A milksop is a boy or man whom other people call too soft: gentle in a way that sounds like weakness, afraid of anything hard or dangerous, easy to push around. The picture behind the word is bread dropped in milk until it goes — food for a baby or a sick person, not for a fighter. It is an old, insult, aimed at males. Young people almost never say it; they would say wimp or coward, or something ruder. You will meet it in older novels more than in the street.
