If you are miffed, you are a little or a little hurt — not raging, just put out. Someone forgot you, talked over you, or made a small slight, and it sits in your chest. It is informal and a bit light, even slightly funny; you can tell a friend “I’m a bit miffed” without starting a fight. You can be miffed at a person or about a thing, and it also works as the past of the verb miff: That miffed her. Though actually the feeling is real but small. If someone smashed a window, miffed would sound oddly light, almost as if you were making the hurt smaller than it is. It is more at home in British English than in American, where or irritated is safer.
組成From miff + -ed. The -ed makes an adjective (how you feel) and also the ordinary past of the verb.
