Midwestern is the adjective for that same central part of the United States — a Midwestern city, a Midwestern accent, Midwestern values. It does not name the place by itself; the Midwest does that. People sometimes hang a stereotype on it: polite, practical, not . Like Midwest, the edges are argued over, so calling a state Midwestern can start a small fight at a dinner table. A person from there is a Midwesterner. Neutral, everyday in American English; in British English you mostly meet it when the talk is about the US. Usually a capital M, because it comes from the place name.
