The midpoint is the place that is equally far from both ends. On a line, it is the exact middle point. On a road, it is halfway along. In a story, a year, a match or a project, the midpoint is when you are halfway through — and here people are often looser: “the midpoint of the meeting” may only mean somewhere in the middle, not a time they measured with a clock. In maths and science it is precise; in everyday talk it can mean “about half way”. It names a spot, not a whole middle area: the midpoint of a room is a place you could stand on, while the middle of the room is the space around that.
