    The middle of the day, at or around twelve o'clock — the time when the morning ends and the afternoon begins.

    midday 講的是「一天的正中間」，也就是十二點前後那段時間。mid- 可以想成「正中間」，midday 就像把一天從中間切開的那個點，早上到這裡結束，下午從這裡開始。它是不可數名詞，前面通常不加 a／the：at midday（在中午）、around midday（中午前後）、by midday（到中午時）。跟 noon 幾乎同義，noon 更常指剛好十二點，midday 則可以鬆一點，包含十二點左右。

Picture the day as an arc running from sunrise to sunset. Midday is the point right at the top of that arc: the sun is overhead, the morning has just finished, the afternoon has not quite begun, and the clock is at or near twelve. The word is built from mid- (middle) + day, so it literally points at the centre of the day rather than at a precise minute.
