Micropower is electricity made close to the place that needs it, in a small way — not in a huge power station far away. A few solar panels on a roof, a small wind machine on a farm, a little generator for one building or one village: that is the idea. The micro- here means small and nearby. It does not mean “a millionth of” anything. People who write about energy and the planet use this word. It is not kitchen English. In real life the edge is fuzzy. A small town plant that makes heat and electricity together is local, but it is not as “micro” as a single roof. In plain talk you will hear local power or power made on site more often.
