1. 1

Micronesian is the word for people and things from — that west-Pacific scatter of more than two thousand small islands, including the Caroline Islands, the Marshall Islands, and . It is not a second name for the islands themselves. Add -an and you get “of that place” or “a person from that place,” the same pattern as Korea → Korean. So you can say a Micronesian language, Micronesian culture, or “She is Micronesian.” Which still matters: the country called the States of , or the larger island region. A number like 106,000 people (2014) is about that country, not everyone in the whole region. You will see this word in geography and in writing about Pacific peoples. It is not everyday English in Taiwan.
