MGM is a famous American film company in Hollywood. The letters stand for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer: three older studio names that joined into one company about a hundred years ago. Even if you have never said the long name, you may know the picture that opens many of its films — a lion in a golden circle, turning its head and roaring. People still say “an MGM film” for that studio’s movies, and for a certain old Hollywood feeling: big musicals, big stars, a polished studio look.
