    In music, mezzo is an Italian word meaning “half” or “in the middle.” You meet it in instructions on the page: mezzo-forte (mf) means fairly loud, not as loud as forte; mezzo-piano (mp) means fairly soft, not as quiet as piano. So “not too loudly, softly” is pointing at this middle volume. It is a specialist word; you will not hear it much outside music class or a concert.
