A metrosexual is a man, usually living in a city, who spends a lot of time and money on clothes, hair, and how he looks. The word was built by blending metropolitan (city) with heterosexual (a man who likes women). A British writer, Mark Simpson, coined it in 1994, and it had a short fashion in newspapers in the early 2000s. The point, for those writers, was that this man was straight, but he took care of his appearance in a way people then stereotyped as “how gay men dress”. Though actually, that stereotype was already unfair, and the word dates itself. Many men care about clothes; that does not tell you who they love. Younger speakers often find metrosexual old-fashioned or media-made. You may still meet it in older articles. It can be a noun (he is a metrosexual) or an adjective (a metrosexual style). It is informal magazine English, not a science word.
