Methodologically is the adverb: in a way that has to do with the methods and principles of a study or a kind of work. If a paper is methodologically sound, the way the research was done is solid — the questions, the sample, the steps. If two studies differ methodologically, they used different methods, even if they talk about the same idea. Like methodological, this word lives in academic and professional English. You will most often see it in front of an adjective: methodologically rigorous, methodologically flawed, methodologically similar.
