Massachusetts is a state in the northeast of the United States, in the area called New England. Boston is its capital and its biggest city. In 1620 the Fathers landed nearby, at Plymouth, and Massachusetts was one of the original thirteen states that formed the country. It is famous for universities, especially Harvard and MIT, and in summer people crowd the coast. English speakers sometimes clip the name in speech, but writing keeps the full form. Though actually the name is not an English invention: it comes from the Massachusett language of the Wôpanâak people, and it pointed to a great hill.
組成From Massachusett Muhsachuweesut: muhs (“great”) + wachuwees (“hill”) + -ut (an ending meaning “at / in”). It named the Great Blue Hill of the Wôpanâak people.
