A marlin is a very large sea fish with a long, hard, pointed nose, like a spear, and a tall fin on its back. People hunt it for sport — the fight is the point — though actually some kinds are also eaten. You see the word in fishing stories, sport-fishing news, and on menus in places that catch big ocean fish. It is not the same animal as a , which also has a long nose, but people who are not fishers often lump the long-nose fish together.
馬林魚(台灣海鮮口語常統稱「旗魚」;和劍魚不是同一種)
