A marksman is someone who can shoot a gun — or sometimes a bow — very well. They hit the mark, the target. Sports clubs and the army still use the word; it sounds a little old and formal next to “a great shot”. Though actually, the man at the end is the old word for a person, but many people now also say markswoman, or just shooter, because marksman sounds male. It is not the same as a sniper. A sniper hides and waits; a marksman is simply a skilled shooter. In some tests, marksman is also a level you can pass.
