A march-past is a ceremony, almost always a military one, in which soldiers — or sometimes police, , or a similar group — march in neat lines past someone important, so that person can watch them and take the salute. The important person usually stands on a platform; the troops keep time and look straight ahead as they go by. You will hear this word most in British English. In American English people more often say they pass in review, or they just call the whole thing a parade. It is a compound: they march, and they go past. You might also see it written without the (march past), but the event itself is the march-past. It is not a protest in the street, and it is not just any parade with music and floats.
分列式多半是軍隊的儀式，有時也會是警察或學員，隊伍整齊列隊經過重要人物面前，讓對方觀看並接受敬禮。重要人物通常站在台上，隊伍踩著拍子，眼睛直視前方。英式英語最常聽到這個詞；美式通常說「pass in review」，或直接叫做遊行。它是由兩個字組成的複合字，也可以寫成不加連字號的「march past」，但指的還是這個閱兵的活動。它不是街頭抗議，也不是一般有音樂和花車的遊行。
