    Mar. is the short written form of March, the third month of the year. You see it in dates, forms, diaries, and newspaper lines: 12 Mar. 2026. You almost never say ‘Mar.’ out loud as its own word; when you speak, you say March. Some writers put a full stop (Mar.) and some do not (Mar), especially in American month lists: Jan, Feb, Mar. It is not a different month and not a different word — only a space-saving spelling of March on the page.
