A mantra is a word or short phrase repeated again and again, either out loud or silently, often during meditation or prayer, to help someone feel calm and focused. In everyday English, people also use "mantra" more loosely for any phrase or idea a person or group repeats often, almost like a motto - "his mantra was 'never give up.'"
