Mangetout is a British English name for a long, flat green pea pod. You eat the whole thing — the thin outer pod and the little seeds inside. That is why the French name means “eat all.” In American English the usual name is snow pea. Sugar snap peas are cousins: those pods are fatter and crunchier. What British shops call mangetout is normally the flat kind. Because the word is borrowed from French, it still feels a little like menu language in English. On an American packet you will almost never see mangetout.

    荷蘭豆(英式名稱;美式多半叫 snow pea。和較圓、較脆的甜豌豆不是同一種)

組成Borrowed from French mangetout: mange (“eat”) + tout (“all”), because even the pod is eaten.
