Mammon means money, wealth, and profit when they are talked about as something ugly to love — a kind of false god that people serve instead of what is right. It is an old religious word, from the Bible, not a normal word for “I need money.” You use it when chasing gain has gone too far. Writers often give it a capital letter, Mammon, as if money were a person. It sounds churchy and ; you almost never hear it in the street. Though actually, when people do use it, they are making a moral point, not counting coins.

組成From Late Latin mammona (“wealth”), from Hellenistic Ancient Greek μαμωνᾶς (mamōnâs), from Aramaic מָמוֹנָא (māmōnā, “money, wealth”). Compare Hebrew מָמוֹן (mamón, “money”).
