1. 1

A mamba is a very poisonous snake from Africa. The two people usually mean are the green mamba, which is green and often up in trees, and the black mamba, which is large, fast, and famous for how dangerous its bite is. Though actually the black mamba is not really black: it is more grey or olive, and the “black” is the dark inside of its mouth, which it shows when it is angry. In English the word is the animal itself, not a casual name for just any snake. You meet it in nature writing, news about bites, and a little in films; it is not a or pet word.
