    Malware is software made to get onto a computer and do harm — steal information, spy on you, lock your files, or make the machine behave badly. Virus, worm, , , and ransomware are kinds of malware. In everyday talk people often say “virus” for all of them, but that is a bit loose: a virus is only one type. You get malware, or a file has malware on it. The word belongs to ordinary computer talk, not to slang and not to poetry.
