1. 1

Malvern is a town in the west of central England, in the Malvern Hills — a long ridge of high ground. People know it for the theatre and for a music festival held there every year. In Britain you also see the name on bottles of spring water from those hills. It is a place name, not a common noun: you go to Malvern; you do not have “a malvern.”

組成From Middle English Malverne, from Old English Mælfern, from an old Welsh name matching today’s Welsh moelfryn, “bald hill” — a hill with little tree cover. That fits the look of the Malvern Hills.
