1. 1

Malawi is a country in East Africa. On a map it looks long and thin. It has no coast of its own: , Tanzania, and wrap around it. Down one side is a very large lake, Lake Malawi. The capital is Lilongwe. An older count (2014) put the population at about seventeen million; more people live there now. English is an official language from the British years, but many people speak Chichewa and other languages at home. The country took the name Malawi in 1964, when it became independent.
