    A mailshot is a pile of the same letter or that a company or a group sends out to many people at once by post — not one letter to one friend, but hundreds or thousands of copies. It is mainly British English. In American English people more often say a mailing or direct mail. Though actually, the shot is not a gun and not a photo: it is more like one round, one burst, sent together. Companies now do the same thing by email; some people still call that a mailshot, a bit loosely. The word belongs to offices and selling, not to the kitchen table. It can also be a verb: to mailshot a list of names.
