- 1
A maharishi is a Hindu holy teacher of a very high kind — a great seer or great sage, not just any priest and not a king. In India the word is old and respectful. In the West many people first heard it because of one famous teacher, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who taught Transcendental Meditation. Though actually, that is only one man who carried the title; using maharishi as if it were only his name would be too narrow. It is a religious title. You might meet it in writing about Hindu teaching, yoga history, or that meditation movement. It is not a royal word, and it is not a joke.
印度教聖者;大仙人(西方常因瑪哈禮師、超覺靜坐而認得這個音,但詞本身不是那個人的專名)
