Something lustrous shines in a soft, gentle way: healthy hair, silk, pearls, or a polished wooden table. The light seems to sit on the surface and glow, rather than flash hard like a mirror in the sun. Writers use it for beautiful things; you will meet it in descriptions more than in daily chat. It comes from lustre, the name of that soft shine (American spelling of the noun is often luster). It has nothing to do with sexual lust — that is only a look-alike at the start of the word.
