1. 1

A lugworm is a fat, soft worm that lives in wet sand by the sea, in a U-shaped burrow. On the beach you often see the little piles of sand it leaves, like squeezed out. Fishers dig lugworms up and put them on hooks as bait. It is a seaside and fishing word, common in Britain; a city classroom may only meet it in a nature text. It is not a garden . Though actually, people sometimes say lugworm for similar beach bait-worms even when a scientist would split the types.
