LTE is a way for phones and other devices to send information very fast over the mobile network. The letters stand for Long-Term Evolution — an engineer’s name for the step that took phones from 3G to what most people call 4G. When the corner of your screen says LTE or 4G, video, maps and messages are riding this kind of connection. Though actually, LTE is not one single speed. It is a family of standards, and later versions (LTE-Advanced) get closer to what once promised as “true 4G”. In shops and on plans, people just say “4G” or “LTE” and mean “decent mobile internet”. Engineers still say LTE when they mean this technology, not 5G, which came after. You will see it on phone boxes, SIM , and that tiny label next to the signal bars.
