Lowland is land that sits lower than the hills or mountains around it. It is often flatter, and you may find more farms, rivers, and towns there than on the high ground. You can talk about a lowland, or the lowlands of a country, as a kind of place — not one small field. It also sits in front of another noun: lowland farms, lowland forest. It is a calm word from maps, news, and school books. “Low” here means lower than the land nearby, not a low price and not a quiet voice. The opposite idea is highland.
