Something low-key is not meant to pull a lot of eyes. A low-key wedding is small and quiet. A low-key colour is soft, not loud. You can keep news low-key if you do not want a big fuss. It is a kind word: the opposite of . Younger speakers also stretch it: “I’m low-key tired” can mean “I am a bit tired,” or “I will not make a big thing of it.” That use is informal and rather new; older people may not speak that way. In photos, low-key light is dark, with deep shadows — same pieces, a more technical sense.
